Joby Warrick

Joby Warrick is a national security reporter at The Washington Post, where he has worked since 1996. He has won the Pulitzer Prize twice, once for journalism and once for his book Black Flags: The Rise of ISIS. He is also the author of The Triple Agent and Red Line. His newest book, The Jackal: The Rise and Fall of Carlos, the World’s First Super-Terrorist, was published by Scribner in August 2026 and draws on declassified CIA cables, police depositions and Warrick’s own interview with Carlos.

His return to the Julian Dorey Podcast was released days after the book came out. The conversation ran from Iran’s hardliners and the IRGC, sanctions, Israel and Gaza, and Jared Kushner’s conflicts of interest, to the Carlos story itself: getting the interview, the ninety minutes with the man, the Vienna attack, and how Warrick writes, cuts chapters and structures a book.
